The mission of the Hernando Mayor’s Youth Council is to serve as role models in the community and among the youth of Hernando. Youth council members develop leadership skills by taking an active role in city-sponsored activities and youth-lead initiatives aiming to engage citizens of all ages. The Hernando Mayor’s Youth Council strengthens their community through volunteerism and increased communication with the Mayor and other city departments to improve the quality of life for the citizens in Hernando.

Sponsorship Opportunities are available to local businesses, organizations and individual donors. Funds are used to provide MYC tee shirts to use at community service events and travel expenses for members attending the Annual Statewide Youth Leadership Summit, a two-day event sponsored by the Mississippi Municipal League. The purpose of the Summit is to bring city officials and youth together to share their experiences of their programs and the impact made on the community. In addition, it establishes a forum where youth can interact and discuss issues and concerns that are important to them. As a result, the Summit has been organized to promote a fun environment for youth and city officials to learn and network with each other.
